Dear Parents/Guardians:
We’re excited to share information about Project Backpack, a local non-profit program that provides extra food for students on weekends throughout the school year. If your child(ren) qualifies for free or reduced lunch, they also qualify for the Project Backpack program.
Each week, your child will receive a bag of non-perishable food items to take home on the last school day of the week. Included in the food bags are also bread and milk vouchers to your local grocery store and encouragement cards for your children. These items are meant to help supplement the nutritious meals and snacks you already provide over the weekend. In addition to the weekly food bags, Project Backpack also provides extra food during long school breaks.
Participation is completely confidential. Each school has a system in place to ensure students are not identified publicly when receiving their food bags.
Project Backpack needs your permission for your child(ren) to participate. Please complete the form for each child in your household. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have about the program. You can also learn more by visiting our website:

Important Information About Food Allergies
If your child has a food allergy, please carefully check the contents of their food bag each week to ensure all items are safe for them to eat. Due to the size of the program and the variety of donated items, we are not able to screen food products for allergens. If you have concerns, we recommend either opting out of the program or making arrangements to be present on distribution days so you can review the food bag before your child brings it home.
Weekly Grocery Vouchers
As part of Project Backpack, your child will receive a voucher each week for a free loaf of bread and a half gallon of milk. These vouchers will be included inside their bag along with the food items.
